
Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, February 13:
• On Senior Night, girls swimming & diving captured another Region title with a 126-60 win over McDowell. Quad winners were Maria Costa, Ellie Natemeier and Haley Palmer. Jillian Heinrich won three events, while Kyan Snider-Mills won twice. The 2022 medley relay state champs received their banner before the meet. 🏊♀️
• Boys swimming & diving also won the Region with their 99-81 win over the Trojans on Senior Night. Quad winners were Mitchell Bradford and Aidan Levis. Jack Raimy won three events, w
hile Owen Carson won twice. The 2022 state champs were honored before the meet with brand new banners. 🏊♂️
• Girls basketball swept Harbor Creek. Varsity picked up a win on Senior Night over the Huskies, 49-26. Addie Biel led the Ramblers with 16, while Lena Walz finished with 15. JVs remained undefeated with a 46-20 win. Katherine McCormick finished with 12, while Natalie Spano chipped in 10. 🏀

Cathedral Prep Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Girls basketball defeated state-ranked Blackhawk, 40-36, in a varsity-only matchup in the Bash with the Bronx at North Allegheny. Jayden McBride led the way with 17 points. Addie Biel had nine. 🏀
• Boys basketball swept Meadville. Varsity picked up a 68-33 victory over the Bulldogs. Jake Sambuchino finished with 20 points to lead the Ramblers. Amaree Pickens had 11, while Semontae Lofton added 10. JVs also were victorious by 70-25 count. Max Wallace had a huge game, finishing with 30 points. Spencer Kanne had 10. JVs would fall on Saturday to St. Ignatius, 50-43. Michael Thompson led with 14. Freshmen basketball defeated Oil City, 43-35. KyZir Rowan had 24. 🏀
• Prep hockey went 2-1 at the Hoosier Cup. In game one, the Ramblers defeated McDowell, 4-3. They would then fall to Culver Academy (IN), 3-2, before defeating St. Francis de Sales (OH), 6-1. 🏒
• Wrestling fell in the Consolation Round of the PIAA AAA Team Tournament to Chambersburg, 39-20. Brandon Byrd (139) had a pin, while Sam Staab (133), Keagan (121) and Jaden Crockett (160) picked up decisions. Bo Martucci (152) won by tech fall. 🤼♂️


President Kevin Smith was the featured speaker at the Rotary Club of Erie's weekly meeting this week. He gave an update on the school year and was joined by Delina Asgedom '23 and Aidan Levis '23, who gave their updates from a student perspective. #Prep 🗣

• Girls basketball swept Fort LeBoeuf. Varsity picked up a 72-18 win over the Bison. Jayden McBride and Addie Biel each had 15 points. Lena Walz had 14. JV kicked the night off with a 48-11 win. Natalie Spano had 15. Leah Major finished with 13, while Emilee Vereb chipped in eight. 🏀
• Girls swimming picked up a big Region win over Meadville, 124-54. Quad winners were Maria Costa and Jillian Heinrich. Kyan Snider-Mills, Ellie Natemeier, Haley Palmer and Josie Dufala all won twice. Angeline Terrizzi captured the diving competition. 🏊♀️
• Boys swimming was also victorious over the Bulldogs, 134-28. Owen Carson won four events. Triple winners were Jack Raimy, Callum Snider-Mills and Mitchell Bradford. Aidan Levis won twice. 🏊♂️
• Wrestling competed in the first round of the PIAA AAA Team Tournament. They fell to Spring-Ford, 33-25. Clay Mallory (189) and Keagan Oler (121) had pins for the Ramblers. Max Spaulding (285), Sam Staab (133) and Bo Martucci (152) had decisions, while Brandon Byrd (139) picked up a major decision. 🤼♂️


Paul Flick '23 and Ian Irvin '23 have created a new tool in their CAD II class. The tool would help prevent the ON/OFF button on wireless microphone receivers from getting accidentally flipped. They created the prototype using the 3D printer. Great work! #Prep #CAD


Generation Esports’ High School Esports League kicked off its Spring Major Valorant Tournament on Twitch yesterday. The Cathedral Prep team of Chorg (Jordan Haas ‘23), Kcwebber (Korey Webber ‘23), Replux (Nick Cooper ‘23), SubduedHealer36 (Ian Irvin ‘23), and Jynx (Anthony Montagna ‘23) dominated the New Hampton (NH) Huskies, 13-4, in the first streamed match of the tournament. The win places the team in the top 50 out of 6000+ teams after week one. The HSEL is an international organization of competitive gamers that runs two major tournaments each year, where players could potentially win thousands of dollars in scholarships. Currently, Cathedral Prep Esports has 33 students on eight teams playing in four different game tournaments: Chess (current record of 1-1), Valorant (current record of 1-1), Rocket League and Rainbow 6 Seige. Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Wednesday, February 8:
• Boys basketball swept Erie High in a JV-freshmen doubleheader at the Joann Mullen Gymnasium. JV picked up a 55-40 win over the Royals, while the freshmen won 50-42. 🏀
• Bowling fell to McDowell, 21-7, to finish the regular season tied for first. Both teams will bowl again next week with a trip to the Western Regional on the line. Congrats to Elena Kacprowicz and Emalie Thomas, who finished second and fourth overall, for qualifying for individual regionals. 🎳


Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Tuesday, February 7:
• Boys basketball completed the season sweep of General McLane. Varsity remained unblemished in Region play with their 68-41 win over the Lancers. Amaree Pickens led all scorers with 18 points. Semontae Lofton and Jake Sambuchino each had 14, while Mohammed Rahama had 10. JVs picked up a 45-24 win behind 13 points from Michael Thompson and 12 from Charlie Williams. 🏀
• Varsity hockey fell to Peters Township, 7-0. 🏒


AFJROTC held a ceremony for their change in command this morning. The full corps gathered in the Cathedral Prep gymnasium to witness the changing of the guard. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Aliyah Castner ‘24 assumed command of the squadron from Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Brendan Lynch ‘23. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Aliyah Castner ‘24 is now corps commander, PA-931. Also, Cadet Major Caleb Dacus ’24 is now deputy corps commander, PA-931 while Cadet Major Kasey Kensil ‘23 is now past deputy commander, PA-931. Congratulations to our cadets! #Prep #AFJROTC


The Cathedral Prep Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and the school’s Spanish Club recently held a dress down fundraiser to benefit the Multicultural Community Resource Center (MCRC) of Erie PA. The MCRC provides a variety of educational and social services, child development, housing, and employment programs to the Latino, refugee, immigrant, and new American populations in Erie. National Honors Society held their second Community Blood Bank Blood Drive in mid-January! 45 donors were screened, and 38 units were collected. • Boys basketball completed the season sweep of Fort LeBoeuf. On Senior Night, Varsity bested the Bison, 80-31. Zion Barksdale had 16 points. Jake Sambuchino added 13, while Amaree Pickens had 10. Semontae Lofton finished with nine. Tavion Spencer, Mohammed Rahama and Max Wallace all had eight points each. The JVs won, 61-25. Michael McDonald had 14, Cormac Thunell added 12. They also picked up a 65-38 win over Canisius on Saturday. Freshmen basketball fell to Canisius, 32-31. 🏀
• Varsity hockey picked up a 3-2 win over Medina (OH) on Senior Night. 🏒
• Indoor track competed in the Spire Scholastic Showcase on Sunday. In the girl's 4x800 relay, Prep ran a time of 9:37.47 to finish second. This time by Lauren Raimy, Anne-Catherine Brown, Sarah Clark and Fina Bannister is currently the second-fastest run by a HS team in PA this season. In the girl's 3200, Sarah Clark placed 10th. She also set a new school record of 10:57.33. In the 800m, Lauren Raimy placed 16th, while Fina Bannister took 19th. Their times are in the top-25 for 800m runners in PA this season. In the 1600m, Anne-Catherine Brown finished 24th. In the boy's 60m, Damario Crawford finished in 18th place. Crawford was also 15th in the 200m. In the 1600m, a race that produced the top two times in the US this season, Luke Brown finished in 11th. 👟

• Congratulations to the Wrestling team! They captured the District 10 AAA championship over McDowell, 37-29. They began the night with a 32-30 win over Hickory in the semifinal. Sam Staab (133), Jaden Crockett (160), Clay Mallory (172) and Max Spaulding (285) all had pins, while Bo Martucci (152) and Isaiah Harrick picked up major decisions. In the championship match, Andrew Gammon (133), Aiden Carter (107), Keagan Oler (121) and Mallory (189) all had falls. Owen Shetler (172) picked up a major decision, while Staab (139) scored a decision. Congratulations to Coach Hahesy and the team! They are headed to Hershey! 🤼♂️🏆
• Indoor Track competed in their third NEOITC Green Division Meet at Spire Institute. Fina Bannister took second in the 400m. Lauren Raimy took first in the 800m, while Anne-Catherine Brown took second. The 4x400m team of Kayla Bogdanski, Caitlin Dugan, Raimy and Bannister took second. The 4x800m team of Sarah Clark, Brown, Allison Bender and Raimy took first. DaMario Crawford took first in the 60m and 200m dash. 👟
• Girls swimming & diving rolled to a 126-23 victory over Mercyhurst Prep. Brianne Ryan took three events. Double winners included Lindsay Armanini, Josie Dufala, Ellie Brugger, Jillian Heinrich and Maria Costa. Angeline Terrizzi took the diving competition. 🏊♀️
• Boys swimming & diving also picked up a big win over Merychurst Prep, 109-32. Matt Hinman won three events. Owen Carson, Callum Snider-Mills, Mitchell Bradford, Clark Brown and Brady Palmer all took a pair of events. Ted Terrizzi won the diving portion. 🏊♂️
