Mike McCoy '66 returned home to Cathedral Prep on Monday to speak to our students. McCoy's "Mike McCoy Ministries" reaches students in Catholic schools with the message of faith, hope, and encouragement; enabling them to make better decisions in their lives. McCoy is a member of Prep's Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as Erie Hall of Fame and Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. He played his college career at Notre Dame and was the second overall pick in the 1970 NFL Draft by Green Bay. Mike went on to play 11 seasons in the NFL for the Packers, Raiders and Giants. He shared stories about his football career and life, including the struggles he faced. He spoke on perseverance and gave students examples on how to maneuver through obstacles in life. Mrs. Drabant’s senior English classes are beginning their “Man and Monsters” unit, where they will be reading “Frankenstein.” To review the elements of gothic stories and prepare, the read M.R. James' short story "Lost Hearts." They then recreated scenes using the Stop Motion Studio application to learn and practice. A stop motion film will be one of their project options for concluding “Frankenstein.” #Prep #English





THIS FRIDAY, National Art Honors Society will be hosting their yearly fundraiser, “Pies & Picasso.” It will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Salata Technology & Innovation Center. This fun event is where you can create a painting with the help of a step-by-step demonstration by student volunteers, as well as spend some time with friends or make some new ones. There is no skill needed to be able to enjoy this event. The canvas, paints, and any supplies needed will be provided. While painting, you are welcome to enjoy a variety of pies donated by NAHS members. Tickets are $25 per person, and this can be paid at the door. AFJROTC’s drill team ended their season with a strong showing in Parkersburg, WV this weekend. Winning several categories, they were able to take first-place overall in military drill against teams from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. These teams were led by Alex Junkin ’24, Conor O'Brien ’24, Chris Reitz ’25, Chris Mosca ’26, Daven Weatherby ’26, and Brooke Burick ’27. • Wrestling finished fifth at the AAA Northwest Regional held at Altoona. Keagan Oler (127) was the lone Rambler that qualified for states with his first-place finish. He picked up the decision over Hickory’s Brady Slicker, 9-5. Amir Johnson (121), Brandon Byrd (152) and Bo Martucci (160) all placed fourth. Andrew Gammon (133) and Gabe Dorman (145) took fifth, while Max Spaulding (215) finished sixth. 🥇🤼♂️
• The District 10 AA Diving championships took place this weekend. Ted Terrizzi placed second for the Ramblers, punching his ticket to states. 🥈💦

They had the chance to learn about Mercyhurst’s programs, engage with faculty members, meet current students, tour campus, and have lunch in their dining hall. • Back-to-back. Congratulations to the Boys Basketball team! They captured the District 10 AAAAA championship with a 53-51 win over Meadville. The victory gave the Ramblers their 25th D-10 crown. Amaree Pickens led the way with 21 points and seven rebounds. Michael Thompson finished with 11 points and six rebounds, while Nando Mirarchi added nine points. Outreach Club members had the opportunity to attend the Rotary Club of Erie’s weekly meeting yesterday to share club updates and receive a check that helped pay for our Operation Christmas Child service project. • Varsity hockey fell to Peters Township, 6-0. 🏒

Congratulations to Noah Handzel ’24. He has committed to play Division I soccer next season at Bucknell University on scholarship. Handzel was Prep's leading scorer the last two seasons and scored the overtime winner to send his team to the state championship. Last week, ten students began their monthly visits to the Barber National Institute to work with the students there! The first visit was for their Valentine’s Day dance, where students with the high school students got to participate in a “getting to know you” activity followed by a dance. Students with the younger students were able to do a craft and play bingo. We’re looking forward to our visit in March and we’re grateful to the Barber Center for this opportunity! #Prep #Community






Cathedral Prep Holiday Weekend Athletics Roundup:
• Five wrestlers took home gold in the D-10 AAA Individual Wrestling Championship. Congratulations to Aiden Carter (107), Keagan Oler (127), Brandon Byrd (152), Bo Martucci (160), and Corey Kowalski (189), who all advanced to the Northwest Region AAA Tournament with their championship victories. Amir Johnson (121), Andrew Gammon (133), Jaden Crockett (172) and Max Spaulding (215) all took second, while Will English (114), Gabe Dorman (145) and Alex Hagerty (285) all placed third. They also advanced to the Region Tournament with their finishes. Overall, the Ramblers finished first with 215 points by the end of the meet, 16 points better than second place Meadville. • Boys basketball finished 2-1 over the weekend. Varsity completed the season sweep of McDowell with a 62-54 win. Derek Galla finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Amaree Pickens had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Spencer Kanne had nine points. JV dropped their matchup to the Trojans, 69-50, while the freshmen defeated Slippery Rock, 61-33. 🏀
