• Girls tennis remained perfect with a 5-0 win over Erie High. Anna Poranski, Finleigh Handzel and Paige Patsy all won in singles. Sophia Glance/Margaret Prichard along with Lilli Beuchert/Sofia Falvo won in straight sets in doubles. 🎾
• Girls cross country picked up a 15-50 win over Erie High. Anne-Catherine Brown won the race in 19:23. Lauren Raimy, Allison Bender, Fina Bannister, Grace Barrett and Rue Burkett finished in second through sixth place, respectively. Makayla Stutts took eighth, while Reagan Johnston finished ninth. Lily Pinzok finished 10th. 👟
• Boys cross country also picked up a win over Erie High, 27-28. James Burkett was first overall at 17:25. Noah Latta finished fourth, while Jeremai Pruzenski took fifth. Nick Kupniewski and Rio Alejandro finished eighth and ninth, respectively. 👟
• Girls volleyball split their doubleheader with Grove City. Varsity picked up a big five-set victory over the Eagles, 3-2. Kaylin Laird had 15 kills. Coco Speros had 10 kills, six aces, and 11 digs. Carolina Krahe had seven kills and 10 digs. Olivia Hutchinson had 15 kills and five digs, while Mackenzie Moore had 15 digs. Kamryn Resurreccion finished with 45 assists and 11 digs. JVs lost in straight sets, 2-0. 🏐
• Girls water polo fell to North Allegheny, 11-4. McKenzie DiPlacido had a hat trick for the Ramblers, while Mia Shaughnessy also scored. Brianne Ryan had 10 saves in net. 🤽♀️
• Boys water polo also dropped their matchup to North Allegheny, 17-6. Drew Brown and Callum Snider-Mills each had a pair of goals. Owen Carson and Colin Troutman also scored, while Dan Kubiak made eight saves in goal. 🤽♂️
• Boys golf finished fourth in the Tam O’Shanter Invitational with a team score of 336. Connor Laird took second overall after shooting a 75. ⛳
• Girls golf finished seventh out of 17 teams at the Meadville Invitational. Lindsay Armanini had the low score for the Ramblers with her 89 placing her 16th overall. ⛳

Cathedral Prep Athletics Roundup for Monday, September 25:
• Boys golf defeated McDowell, 338 to 347, in a team playoff to advance to the D-10 championship where they will meet up with Warren. The Ramblers were led by Cooper Wierzchowski's medalist score of 73. ⛳
• Boys soccer picked up a sweep over Meadville. Varsity shutout the Bulldogs, 11-0, for a Region victory. Noah Handzel had a hat trick. Brandon Lin scored a pair, while James DiSanza, Dylan Danch, Cam Dunbar, Max Johnson, Andrew Spitzer and Tyler Chermack all scored. Chermack and Jordan Moye shared the shutout in net. JVs picked up a 3-0 victory. Dunbar, Ethan Cain and Spitzer scored for the Ramblers. The shutout was shared by Moye and Breese Stoeger. ⚽
• Girls soccer dropped their doubleheader to Fort LeBoeuf. Varsity fell to the Bison, 3-0, while JVs lost, 1-0. ⚽

Congratulations to Jayden McBride ‘24. She has verbally committed to a full Division I basketball scholarship in the Big East Conference to Georgetown University. A four-year varsity player and three-year starter, McBride was tabbed 1st Team All-State as a junior. She averaged 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game last season. Jayden received nearly 20 Division I full offers before settling on Georgetown. #Prep #RollRamblers #StudentAthlete 🏀


GECAC’s Karen Hund stopped by campus last Friday to share a bit about the work of GECAC. She also picked up a check from the proceeds from our first dress down of the year, which will help them buy almost 100 winter coats for their upcoming winter clothing event! Proceeds were also sent to the SSJ Neighborhood Network to help restock their food pantry. #Prep #Service #Community


Students in Ms. Kabasinski’s Forensic Science classes were tasked with creating a mock crime scene, along with a complete written description of the event and evidence. Their scenarios were swapped with another classmate who solved the crime! #Prep #Forensics

• Boys soccer finished 1-1 on their trip to Kentucky. First, they picked up a 1-0 victory over nationally ranked Frederick Douglass (KY). They would fall to nationally ranked St. Xavier (KY), 2-0. ⚽
• Girls varsity cross country finished second in the PIAA Foundation Meet at Hershey. Anne-Catherine Brown finished ninth overall, while Lauren Raimy took 13th. Fina Bannister finished 20th. Allison Bender finished 22nd, while Caitlin Dugan finished 30th. Rue Burkett took 42nd, while Grace Barrett was 45th. JVs also finished second. Makayla Stutts was second overall. Reagan Johnston was third, while Sarah Teed finished eighth. Lilly Pinzok took 10th. Sophia Swanseger finished 16th. 👟
• Boys water polo took part in the Beast of the East tournament. The Ramblers finished 2-2 on the weekend. They picked up victories over Calvert Hall (MD), 10-8, and Lawrenceville (NJ), 12-8. They fell to Wilson, 15-8, and Springfield, 11-6. Callum Snider-Mills led the Ramblers with 13 goals on the weekend. Drew Brown had eight, while Colin Troutman and Brady Palmer each had six. Owen Carson had a hair, while Adam Clark also scored. Dan Kubiak made 32 saves in net. 🤽♂️
• Girls water polo also took part in the Beast of the East. They finished 1-3 on the weekend. Their lone victory came against Springfield, 9-7. They lost to Wilson, 12-6, Lawrenceville (NJ), 15-7, and Central York, 13-6. McKenzie DiPlacido led the way with 11 goals, while Mia Shaughnessy scored nine. Jaslene Cage and Savannah Wierzchowski each scored three. Megan Cardella and Alexis Ferrare also scored. Brianne Ryan made 41 saves overall. 🤽♀️

• Girls varsity volleyball took part in the Meadville Tournament this weekend. They began the day with one-set mini match in their pool. The fell to Saegertown, 9-25, before getting wins over Corry, 25-18, and General McLane, 25-18. After finishing pool play, they took on Corry after the re-pool. They fell to the beavers in straight sets, 2-0. They would split with Greenville, 1-1, before dropping their match to Mercyhurst Prep, 2-0. They were awarded the top seed in the silver bracket after pool play, and took down Erie High, 2-0, before sweeping Girard, 2-0, to win their bracket. 🏐
• Football faced off against Clarkson North (ONT) this weekend. Varsity dropped their matchup, 27-13. Dajoure Hollingsworth had the big day for the Ramblers, rushing for 255 yards and two touchdowns. JVs fell, 50-0, while Freshmen lost, 21-0. 🏈

• Boys soccer took on McDowell in their first rivalry doubleheader of the season. Varsity shutout the Trojans, 7-0. Dylan Danch and Luke Trocki each had a pair of goals. Brandon Lin, Noah Handzel and Max Johnson also scored. Tyler Chermack earned the shutout in net. JVs played to 1-1 tie. Andrew Spitzer had the lone goal. ⚽
• Girls tennis stayed perfect in the Region, and overall, with a 3-2 win over McDowell. Anna Poranski and Paige Patsy won in straight sets in singles. Lilli Beuchert/Sofia Falvo were straight sets winners in doubles. 🎾
• Boys golf took second in their final Region mega-match of the year. Cooper Wierzchowski shot a 70 to finish first overall. Connor Laird finished second overall with a 73. ⛳
• Girls volleyball fell in their doubleheader against Conneaut. Varsity was swept, 3-0, while JVs also lost in straight sets, 2-0. 🏐



Collin Harris ‘24 earned National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student recognition from the College Board for his score on the Pre-SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) in 2022. The PSAT/NMSQT Exam is taken annually by approximately 1.3 million high school juniors in the United States. Collin scored in roughly the top 2% of test takers! • Girls tennis remained undefeated with a 4-1 victory over Nichols (NY). Finleigh Handzel and Paige Patsy won in singles. The tandems of Lilli Beuchert/Sofia Falvo and Katie Kuhar/Laura Hetrick won in doubles. 🎾
• Girls soccer shutout Mercyhurst Prep, 6-0, in a varsity-only matchup. Brooklyn DiRaimo had a hat trick for the Ramblers, who won their fourth straight. Callie Cacchione had a goal and two assists. Kayley McCall and Mackenzie Prather also scored. Jordan Senz got the shutout in goal. ⚽

• Girls soccer swept Harbor Creek. Varsity won their third straight with a 1-0 win over the Huskies. Brooklyn DiRaimo had the lone goal for the Ramblers. Callie Cacchione had the assist. JVs also picked up a 1-0 victory. ⚽
• Girls golf finished third in their Region mega-match at Fox Run Golf Course. Lindsay Armanini led the way, shooting a 40. Claire Williams shot a 42, while Emily Dudenhoeffer shot a 44. Cece Morgan rounded out the scoring with a 48. ⛳
• Boys golf finished third in their Region mega-match at Blueberry Hill Golf Club. Connor Laird’s 78 placed him third overall individually. Cooper Wierzchowski shot an 82. ⛳

• Football finished 2-1 on the weekend, including a sweep of St. Francis (NY). Varsity battled to a six-overtime victory, 78-72, over the Red Raiders. Luke Costello hit Joe Himes for the game-winning touchdown. Costello had four touchdowns through the air, connecting with Himes on two of them, and a rushing touchdown. Max Spence and Griffin Potts each had receiving touchdowns. On the ground, Dajoure Hollingsworth finished with 248 yards and four touchdowns. Suhtaun Lewis ran for 91 yards and two scores. JVs earned a comeback win, 14-13. Davin Friedman connected with Joey Bernatowicz for s touchdown, while KJ Williams ran one in. Freshmen fell to St. Ed’s (OH), 10-0. 🏈
• Girls soccer swept St. Joseph Academy (OH) in a doubleheader. Varsity defeated the Jaguars in overtime, 3-2, after Olivia Dixon scored her third goal of the game. Callie Cacchione had a pair of assists. JVs picked up a 1-0 shutout. Kate Peterson scored the deciding goal. ⚽
• Girls water polo hosted the Erie Challenge. The Ramblers fell to Wilson, 10-1, and Pennridge, 14-5. Savannah Wierzchowski had three goals for the Ramblers, while Mia Shaughnessy had two. McKenzie DiPlacido had the other tally. 🤽♀️
• Boys water polo also competed in the Erie Challenge this weekend at the Hallman Aquatics Center. They finished 1-1. They fell to Wilson, 14-8, before besting Pennridge, 17-13. Callum Snider-Mills had another huge day with 13 goals for the Ramblers. Drew Brown totaled seven. Colin Troutman and Brady Palmer each had a pair of goals. Owen Carson also scored. 🤽♂️
• Boys soccer swept Canisius (NY). Varsity picked up a 3-0 shutout over the Crusaders. Noah Handzel, Kwame Anim-Somuah and Luke Trocki scored for the Ramblers. Tyler Chermack and Jordan Moye combined for the shutout in goal. JVs picked up a 1-0 victory. Cam Dunbar scored the lone goal, while Moye got the shutout. ⚽
• Girls golf finished ninth out of 18 teams at the McDowell Invitational. Lindsay Armanini and Claire Williams had the low scores for the Ramblers on the weekend, each shooting a combined 175. They led Prep’s individual scoring on day one, while Cece Morgan’s 87 led day two. ⛳
• Boys golf took part in the Midwest Classic at The Country Club of Meadville. The Ramblers finished 12th overall. Cooper Wierzchowski led the way, tying for 13th with his combined score of 152. Connor Laird shot combined 161. ⛳

Anne-Catherine Brown led the way with a second-place finish, which Lauren Raimy and Allison Bender followed to take third and fourth place, respectively. Rue Burkett took 22nd, while Caitlin Dugan finished 23rd. Grace Barrett finished 25th. 👟

• Girls soccer picked up a sweep over Warren. Varsity bested the Dragons, 11-2, behind hat tricks from Callie Cacchione and Olvia Dixon. Kayley McCall and CC Cacchione each had a pair of goals, while Shelby Abogunde also scored. JVs picked up an 8-0 win. Abogunde and Maeve Melody each scored twice. Kate Peterson, Brooklyn DiRaimo, Giselle Hiner and Jasiyah Slupski also scored for the Ramblers. ⚽
• Girls water polo split their games in the Tiger Classic at North Allegheny. They fell to Governor Mifflin, 13-4, before picking up a 10-8 victory over Cumberland Valley. Mia Shaughnessy and McKenzie DiPlacido finished with five goals apiece on the weekend. Jaslene Cage finished with four goals. 🤽♀️
• Boys water polo competed in the Tiger Classic. They fell to Governor Mifflin, 16-15, in a shootout at North Allegheny, then lost to Cumberland Valley, 17-9. Callum Snider-Mills carried the offense with 15 total goals. Owen Carson finished with four goals. Brady Palmer and Drew Brown each scored a pair, while Colin Troutman also scored. 🤽♂️
• Boys soccer took on Lake Catholic (OH) in a doubleheader. Varsity fell to the Cougars, 6-0, while JV played to a 0-0 tie. ⚽
• JV girls volleyball took part in the Magnificat Quad. They battled to straight set losses, 2-0, TO St. Joseph Academy (OH), Padua (OH) and the hosts. 🏐
• Freshmen football took on Oil City. They fell to the Oilers, 28-14. 🏈
